Bicycle Thieves

Gutted.
Woke up this morning, read my email, made a few calls and then perused my usual cycling related websites. Nothing unusual, always a good sign in these trouble times.
So yes, I’m gutted.
I’m insulted, hurt and fucking irate.
Cycling is life to me and I treat it with respect. Hours of training, living healthy and sacrifice and nothing more. No pills, no shots, no transfusions. Nothing that would soil my accomplishments or steal from a competitor.
Apparently some have lost sight of the reason cycling is such a beautiful sport.
Apparently nothing matters besides the almighty dollar.
Apparently we are left with no choice but to turn off our TVs and get back on our bikes.
See you on the road.

It’s hard to believe how fast the season has gone by, that it’s already mid July blows my mind! After getting a bit of a late start to the season, I’ve finally found my legs and am starting to really enjoy racing. Going into my second year of full time racing and training I’ve really begun to have a bit of fun rather than rolling to the start line a hot mess of nerves.

Crit racing has evolved into a real joy as I’ve found that I’m a pretty fast sprinter, which makes it a lot more fun than just being pack fodder. But the main reason I’ve enjoyed this year so much has been the revelation that is Vanderkitten. It’s pretty difficult for me to put into words how great Dave, Jennie, and Mark have been to me and how much they’ve allowed me to pursue my dreams. It’s pretty damn awesome!

As we speak Team Vanderkitten is in the works and I for one couldn’t be happier. After the success of the one girl road team, the guys have decided to go all in with a full roster of “kick ass chicks” next season. I can hardly wait to experience the adventures that I know are right around the corner. What I envision I’m sure is only a fraction of what it will actually be. When Dave and Mark get an idea into their collective minds it’s like a freight train rolling towards a town called fruition! IT’S GONNA HAPPEN AND HAPPEN BIG! =)

I came across a fantastic website with a picture exhibit by Flemish photographer Stephan Vanfleteren. His photos are heartbreakingly gorgeous and, for me, put into picture all the reasons I have such a love affair with Flemish cycling and Belgium in general. It’s worth checking out for sure! http://www.stephanvanfleteren.com/ or go to http://www.panos.co.uk/ ,click enter, and look for the heading Flandrien. Both galleries are worth looking at but my personal favorite is “Hard men and Heros”.

Soon
