Sporting Life Society Interview

The Sporting Life Society Interview 3 Comments »

Brett Svatek of The Sporting Life Society asked me a few weeks ago to have a chat with him about my life as a racing cyclist. The final outcome is posted on his page which can be found by clicking this link—–> The Sporting Life Society

I’d like to thank Brett for giving myself and Vanderkitten the opportunity to be part of the interesting commentary on the many diverse aspects of what he defines as “the sporting life.” It’s a life we certainly aspire to!

Cheers for now,
Liz

Beer Heaven

The Trappist Oakland 3 Comments »

Last night a group of my favorite California kids went to a brand new bar in downtown Oakland called The Trappist. We waited in line outside in the freezing cold for around 20 minutes to get into this tiny bar that holds only 49 lucky souls. The wait was well worth it as the menu of Belgian beers they stock is among the best I’ve ever come across this side of the Atlantic.

The Trappist is literally the size of a shoe box. Granted, a very beautiful shoe box. If you have any appreciation for Belgian beers and live in the Bay Area do not miss out on this place.

We started with a Witkap Tripel which I enjoyed almost as much as I enjoy my favorite Tripel, Westmalle. We then moved on to two big bottles of St. Feuillien Tripel. Very enjoyable.

One of my favorite things about Belgian beers are the stories behind the individual brews. They seem to flavor the beer with history and make them taste that much better.

Here is the web link to The Trappist, be sure not to miss it!

Makin’ Mischief in Marin

Flew back to California late Wed night and got right back into the swing of things. I was Bob’s date/caretaker at the annual Marin County Cyclists holiday auction and dinner.

Here are some photos. We were as well behaved as one could expect us to be. I’ll leave it at that.

Fabio, Bob and me.

I broke Bob’s rule concerning the buffet. He warned me it was all I could eat, not all I could carry…

Can’t believe they let two people with heads this big in the same room at one time!
