Fun With Mental Midgetry
Uncategorized March 11th, 2008
I’ve reached a new milestone in the wonderful world of blogging.
The anonymous comment bitch fight. See comments in My Favorite Things #1 post for more info.
“Anon” was angry about the post left late yesterday evening due to the fact that I posted the very sad news story about the death of two Bay area cyclists earlier in the day. While I didn’t personally know either of them, I was troubled, as most in the cycling community probably were and rather than just skim over it posted the news.
His first two comments went something along the lines of “Thats fucked up you posting a picture of you drinking beer in the tub…these people died yesterday…some people can’t drink beer.” I may not have it exactly correct, I’m paraphrasing here. The comments were deleted as my initial reaction was to remove them since I didn’t necessarily agree with “Anon.”
The third comment he posted, I left. I owe Mr. “Anon” a thank you in some manner as his outburst got me to thinking… Do I edit post comments? Do I remove the anonymous comment option? Do I give a crap?
Conclusion- I’m not exactly the most verbally passive person you’ll ever meet and I’m certainly not a self-editor. Why should I require people who leave comments on this blog to live up to standards I don’t impose on myself? The “do as I say, not as I do” mentality always pissed me off so the simple answer is- I won’t!
This blog was intended to be a sort of “news reel” of my mind/life and as the media goes I’d much rather be the BBC than FOX for example.
SO on that note, beware, this is not a jitbag free zone. Such is life.
But if you have any balls at all you’ll leave your name.

Even turning off anonymous still allows people to make up stuff. Best not to take the bait of trolls! They make fools of themselves without your help!

Liz,
It is impossible to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person….just let it go and take it out on the pedals and the road.

“SO on that note, beware, this is not a jitbag free zone. Such is life.”
Best line ever!
Beautiful way of handling it!
I love it!

PS
And I admire your character:)
Good showing.

meh, i’m afraid they never go away, Liz.
but it does get a lot easier to deal with as time goes on, as the skin is reminded of how tough it is, and the important moments in life rightfully, beautifully dwarf those things insignificant and without REAL meaning.
i’ve little energy left for people who act so. and there is NO issue with deleting their asses at anytime.
you create your world.
thanks for letting a few glimpses of it out for us to be a part of.
appreciated,

I don’t know if I agree with deleting posts as a solution. You involve the public = you get the public. You effect the public you receive the public.
Yes, we can all make pretend that we live isolated lives….BUT WE ARE ALL CONNECTED. And you are laying it out there. We need to learn to live together….or at least accept the shit that is society and cultural – beautiful and ugly.
So – I put a vote in – for handling the situation just how you handled it!
That person will get bored and eventually go away.
I personally feel it is important to see the bad and ugly of the world along side the good and beautiful. It is natural. There is value in that!
Stand strong and BE.
Sorry to sound so nerdy but I’m an artist…so criticism is part of life.
Once again I admire your approach and strength of character!
Me.

Thanks for your valid input, K.
Will not be deleting posts unless they are harmful to a third and uninvolved party.

Liz,
great job out there on last sunday… you are fun to watch! Maybe I am just ignorant here but I thought it was lame when they called you up and there was complete silence in the peleton… except for me clapping for you (I sorta felt weird actually) I wish the ladies could clap and cheer eachother on… it sucks, but anyway good job again.

After readung this exchange, I’m left with one nagging question: WTF’s a “jitbag?”
March 11th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
sorry, not to offend but call ups are generally reserved for big race winners, nat champs, world champs, while its common to call up locals too, dont think she lives in central valley although probably feels like it with all the races there, but yes its cool to cheer for all girls
March 11th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
There were other ladies that got called up who were not national champs (or world champs… or locals…)
I have a feeling that Dave Tolle just sort of did this on his own and calls up who he chooses? (maybe not..?)
I don’t know… I am learning all this stuff here, but regardless we should all be friendly at the start line it seems like the “pro” thing to do. (at least until they say go)

Ryan, it was nice to meet you as well. I’ll be sure to look for you in the future.
Will you be in Visalia?
March 11th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
no Visalia for me! I am not ready for that yet ;p I am gonna hit up the low key races in sacramento (my family lives there too so I get to race and visit w/them… good times).
Good luck in Visalia! It will be a tough race for sure.

It was cool seeing you Sunday Liz (in the bath and out).
It’s all about the flower power eh Mikey?

In signing my name to this post, I have proven I do indeed – have balls.

Liz,
Chuck here..Mr Norris….
I just read what chuckle head
anony-ass wrote on your beer bath pic…listen, the poor guy probably
drinks keystone…or, even worse, he might have that sunken penis disease! have you heard of it? It’s when they have to take your inverted flacid penis and surgically turn it right side out….just so you can pee standing up! Think about how frustrating it must have been for that guy discovering he wasn’t a chick, but a dude with inverted penis!….and then he sees you drinking a beer, half naked in a bath….and something starts to poke his….well, what he thought was his labia..and bam! low and behold…it’s just his little tiny inverted penis! can you imagine??he’s pissed!!..and yet eroused..but pissed he’s aroused..and starts calling you names!! but don’t forget….he has an inverted penis!! so don’t sweat the no-name inverted weenied poster…he couldn’t even use ‘your’ in a sentence correctly..or pee standing up.

Goolay, I have not laughed that hard since the time Julita said “Lemme ask you a question about your vagina!”
Hahahahhaaaaaaaaa That was a real riot.

Love the post today!
Say what you feel. It is YOUR blog, no-one else’s.
Should you go back and edit your post? Like you say the blog is a record of your thoughts and points of view. Let it stay that way!
Everytime I hear of cyclist deaths on the road I have a sense of a ‘there for the grace of god…’ moment. And whilst we may not know some of these individuals personally, it affects us. Why? Plus we need to know about this in order to keep ours, and others, safety foremost in our minds.
If Anonymous’ rantings are just and maybe strike a nerve with you then go back and edit, if they are just ‘unjust’ rantings with nothing but personal opinion then let your blog stand!
As for the legs in the bath…
Legs and Beer two of my favourite things! Ha!

Liz,
I’m glad you exist in this cycling community. It needs you and your perspective. Thank you for the honesty. And…kick some arse this weekend in Visalia!
March 12th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Liz, let’s get back on the high road. you have given Anon enough to jerk off for a year. He probably doesn’t even know you — he has probably done this on a hundred blogs by just trying to get a rise out of people. The best thing to do is ignore his comments. Why would you even want to defend yourself? You’ve done nothing wrong. And also he feeds into your computer and it’s quite easy to track back to find out who it is…
March 12th, 2008 at 10:38 am
On Call-Ups:
The promoter has some leeway on this at non-championship races. Generally, you would include the riders of highest accomplishment for sure, then other riders who might be showing improvement, garnering a lot of press, riding hard, local stars, personal friends, pay-off givers, etc.
The idea is that a rider who is getting a lot of publicity is very good for the sport… sort of a no-brainer, right? The more exposure the sport gets, the more money comes in, the more money that comes in, the better quality the events are, so on and so forth…

…miz hatch…as a bike racer, you may not be a mother teresa (but who is ?) out to save the world, but ya know what ???…you do damn well at yer job & yer (intentional spelling, ha-ha) not the type to ever stop trying, so i hope you take solace in that fact…you’re a kick-ass bike racer, kiddo…
…i’ve only met ya a couple a’ times but you are definitely a straight shooter…
…i went through a serious blogger ‘identity theft’ on a site i enjoy posting on, wherein someone re-registered my bgw handle & posted crap to make me appear like a fool…first, i reserve the right to appear like a fool by my own actions, harrumph & something suggested to me & mentioned above…
…if it gets serious, there is a ‘connection’ to anon. & while google blogger won’t do anything w/ out a court order, a well known attorney friend suggested simply paying a young computer genius to do a little “research” & remind the anon. offender just how vulnerable they could be…
…anyway, you handled it w/ aplomb, so stay cool, stay strong, keep both learning & kicking ass on the bike…you’ve got a whole world ahead of you…
…btw, did anyone happen to notice & compliment you on those legs…ha, awesome gams, woman…peace !…
March 13th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I’m still of the mind that its your blog so you can do whatever you want. Anon doesn’t have to read it.
Keep up writing about whatever you want.
I used “your” right too

First time I write here(and in most of websitesas I’m an internet novice, not really, but almost).
And,first of all, sorry for my poor english,I was born and live in Asturias(north of Spain,if it sounds familiar to you,Angliru,Lagos de Covadonga, and other famous climbs are here),and I got to this blog thanks to BH bikes.I was looking for BH sponsored teams, because of an argument with a ride pal,and I saw your team, found interesting apparel when a girl friend’s b’day comes close, and I saw an amazingly cute girl, who I found after reading your blog and stuff,is almost even more passionate about cycling than me(what to say about belgium beer, mmmhhhhh),and, really funny.
What I mean after this brick I’ve released,it’s:Keep on posting as always, don’t pay attention to people who don’t seem to understand your life behind the bars, and keep us informed and amused as always.
Best regards from my green land.
