Like A Bad Penny…
Uncategorized March 9th, 2009I’m FINALLY updating the blog. It’s been an interested month and half since my accident in St. Helena. Frustrating/Overwhelming/Angering on one hand but strangely also Life Affirming/Revitalizing/Emboldening. More so the last things for me. I’ve never felt more fortunate or had a clearer head about what I want out of this year and the ones to come. All the goals I had that may have previously been written down in pencil are now in red permanent ink and underlined in bright yellow highlighter; a fine point, limpid.
I’ve been back on the bike for almost 3 weeks. I started 4 days after the crash on the trainer but was unable for quite a while to put my hand to the bars due to the soft tissue damage my back sustained. It’s taken up until exactly 2 hours ago for my amazing chiro, Dr. Tom Kano, to get an complete adjustment on my upper back. I owe him so so much as he’s been there helping me work through my injuries every step of the way with patience and understanding. His work with my has been invaluable. If you’re looking for a tip top chiro in Walnut Creek, check him out at Beyond Chiropractic.
I need thank my team/teammates and coach for being so supportive and caring through all of this. THANKS! Mark, you’re a life saver, hope you know that. Robin, for forcing me to be patient, not to rush, not to worry about what anyone else thought I should do… “Deep breath, Ivana!” It’s going to be a really good year for all of us, I have zero doubts.
Lastly, I am overwhelmed and humbled by the amount of get well wishes and words of encouragement I received from all over the world from other racing cyclists, bike enthusiasts and well wishers. Your letters, flowers, and cards are hugely appreciated and helped me get through many sleepless nights and moments of wondering “what now?”. It speaks volumes about what a cool sport this is!
I intend to start racing again in 2 weeks, need to get a little something in the legs prior to Redlands. That’s going to be baptism by fire, not the ideal first big race back but it’ll be good training and I wouldn’t miss it for anything. Ah, the exquisite pain of Teutenberg/Miller/Carroll et al RIPPING YOUR LEGS OFF! Beautiful.
But first I head to NYC for 3 days this week to do a little work for Maxim Mag again, more on that to follow…
So, until next time, TAKE CARE and THANK YOU!
Lizzer

Which issue of Maxim are you going to be in next?
March 12th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Lizzer,
Thanks for the update. Figured you were just training when I didnt see your name in any race results. We are training down here in Texas too. Fighting the South Texas mountains (wind). I look forward to seeing the race results. welcome back!

Liz, I’m pretty sure you under estimate the fire in that engine of yours. Even with the crash, the pine needles in your hair, and the time fighting back on the trainer, the champion is still churning inside you. Taking a little time probably help you in ways you will discover later. Get that new steed dialed in and go have some fun.

“To the lady in Marin with the PETA bumper sticker on her CL55 AMG- What do you think your seats are made from? Cows that died from old age?”
dipshit, ever heard of faux leather & cloth? wtf do you think most car seats are made of?
April 2nd, 2009 at 6:51 pm
To “Dee” holy shit dumbass do you think someone rocking a CL55 AMG has faux leather, or cloth? Let me answer that for you since it seems to be beyond your mental capacity. NO.
April 2nd, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Hahah dee you are an idiot. Its a CL55 AMG, use your brain.

Maxim again? I hope they didn’t smear you with asphalt again. I actually have never met a woman who looked better with asphalt then without. For some strange reason I like my attractive nearly-naked women to be clean.
What did you expect for someone in Marin County. They probably feel its fine for them to have leather, but not the “little” folks. They feel the cows don’t mind making the sacrifice for the special people like those who have fancy mercs in Marin County…
Oh, and no “pleather” in Mercs, only the real deal. Although cloth might be an option in some of their “value” line.

Pinto, I’m still your biggest fan, and your no shetland!

Good catch on the PETa sticker Liz. Its funny what folks notice when riding a bike. My favorite is “wag more, bark less”.
Keep the shiny side up!

If you are ever in the Boston area, look us up. We’d love to ride with you and treat you to some old school racing fuel-Pasta baby!

Dee, Grow up!
Lizzer, keep shining!

Life’s a bitch sometimes. Behaving like a bad girl hurts. Cycling is all about going down occasionnally and getting back up again. You come back stronger, will have learned something and sure be out there looking for more. Fare thee well, Liz.

Typical distortion of the facts. A Mercedes with faux leather and cloth seats. Lol, think outside the Prius!
April 7th, 2009 at 2:47 am
It’s always leather for the Merc.. alcantara or cloth is not even an option.. but there are so many things made out of animals that every one of us should be careful when sporting PETA stickers

Love the Bocelli in the juke box. He’s a great artist to listen to dull the pain on a long steep climb. Maybe it stirs the Italian climber in my legs. Cheers Liz!

I just saw a piece that Carson Daly did on you on his show and I must say that you are one heck of a fire cracker! Sorry to hear about your injuries, and I am sure you have been hearing and receiving a lot well wishes from your family, friends, and alike. But hey, one more wish can’t hurt right? Be safe, be explosive, be wild, be grounded, acomplsih your goals, and I am sure you will surprise the nay sayers in due time. Heal up and get well soon
